Brussels law drafts urge total ban on neonicotinoids from all fields after having banned three; imidacloprid, clothianidin and thiamethoxam; on all flowering crops for a period of three years in 2013. Scientists are to draw conclusions from the data obtained during the moratorium by this upcoming fall; this is an extension of the original deadline due to the vast amounts of information they now have.

That stands in contrast to the approach of liberal environmentalists under former President Barack Obama, who backed bans on certain kinds of oil drilling and regulations aimed at discouraging petroleum use.
